The digital afterlife and why you should be smart enough to prepare for it!

Kurzbeschreibung

Our physical life on this planet is finite, but our digital avatars and all imprints we leave online live on long after we die. How do we prepare for digital immortality? What happens to all our pictures, messages and accounts? And: how does grief change in the face of everlasting social media profiles? Get ready for some digital housekeeping!

The recent global events transferred most of our lives to the digital realm. We increasingly understand that we are leaving a huge digital footprint behind - the increase of activity on social media and online shopping sites is skyrocketing since last spring, in addition to the already high numbers due to the digital transformation of our lives including  AI and machine learning algorithms.

These tech trends raise several new questions we are trying to find answers for. How do we prepare for digital immortality? What happens to all our pictures, messages and accounts? Who owns the rights to my digital (art)work before and after I die? Do I need a executor of my digital last will?

But there is also a very different second side to the coin: How does grief change in the face of everlasting social media profiles? Can a digital community help one another to overcome mourning?

We talk with journalist Charlotte Wiedemann who amongst other things writes a blog (friedlotse.de/blog) for Germany's biggest funeral company Ahorn. She is joint by best selling author and general manager of German magazine brandeins, Holger Volland in a session moderated by J2C’s technologist and alchemist Kathleen Schröter. Get ready for some digital housekeeping!
