Mert Akbal is an artist and researcher. He focuses on the similarities between oneiric dream experience and visual art, as well as their integration to cognitive sciences in order to facilitate the research of conscious experience in visual terms. He is affiliated with following academic institutions: Academy of Fine Arts Saar (Saarbruecken), Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (Leipzig), Graduate School of European Dream Cultures at the University of Saarland (Saarbruecken). His works are  presented on  various platforms such as at the ZKM Karlsruhe,  on Prix D’Arts Robert Schuman, at Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, by IEEE at Boston, at ISEA 2016 Hong Kong and ISEA 2018  Durban.
